Get to know Dr. Tess and Dr. Lee:

1. Can you tell us details about you/your practice?

We have been in practice since 2004. We are a family owned cosmetic dermatology, dermatological surgery practice that has been specializing in regenerative aesthetics and adipose-derived regenerative medicine for the past 5 years. We are one of the first practices in the US to offer platelet-rich plasma and adipose-derived stem cells, stromal vascular fraction treatments.

Dr. Tess is a recognized pioneer in the field of regenerative medicine and aesthetics. She helps create regenerative protocols, educates and trains other doctors on these life-changing procedures such as ALMI, Time Machine Procedure, vConfidence and vTimeMachine. We believe in a holistic, integrative approach to achieve the best outcomes and help our patients be their very best inside and out, and live their best life.

We are a family of health care professionals (our family is full of physicians and nurses who work together) and have created a caring, nurturing, healthful healing atmosphere. We even offer free workout, yoga and other soul enriching classes to the public through our Life Center!

2. Why did you get involved in regenerative medicine?

DR. JAMES LEE: My involvement with regenerative medicine started as a personal story. I had a history of neck pain secondary to cervical stenosis, that I eventually needed surgery for. I underwent a 4 level neck procedure three years ago, and recovering from that was painful and slow. I elected to have stem cell Regeneris procedure about one year post and am extremely happy with the results. I am pain-free and back to life!

DR. TESS: I was introduced to Platelet Rich Plasma many years ago when it was supposed to be an alternative to fillers. I started using PRP in combination with our other skin resurfacing techniques and created our signature Time Machine Procedure 5 years ago. I also was one of the first female doctors to offer the O Shot and P Shot - utilizing PRP for sexual health.

Since I routinely perform liposuction, I was one to the first doctors to use fat for its stem cell properties. We have been offering adipose-derived regenerative treatments for many years and the results have been amazing. I am a huge believer in the power of stem cells. I have treated my own family: my husband, Dad, father in law, brother, aunts, and uncles and everyone has improved!

3. What are some of the most exciting technologies in this field?

DR. JAMES: What is most exciting about Regeneris stem cell technology is that it can be used for the entire body, or specifically targeted for more specialized treatment. I personally benefited from both general IV stem cell treatment and targeted treatment for hair.

DR. TESS: Aging of the skin, hair, chronic pain and other degenerative conditions associated with aging can now be treated utilizing our own body’s natural ability to heal and regenerate. We now routinely treat a patient from head to toe, inside and out from a single fat harvest. In a single visit all under local anesthesia and just a few hours of treatment, a patient can have their hair, face, neck, hands, joints and even sexual organ treated along with IV infusion of their stem cells for internal healing and regeneration. It’s truly amazing!

4. Why did you decide to become a doctor?

DR. JAMES: I always had an intense propensity and curiosity for how things work. That curiosity was strongest for how my own body worked. That combined with a natural desire to help people made medicine an obvious choice for me. I can’t imagine anything else as rewarding and fulfilling.

DR. TESS: I have always wanted to be a Doctor from as far back as I remember. As a medical student at Stanford, I realized I wanted to help improve my patients’ psychological well being and overall happiness, so I thought I was going to go into psychiatry. When I did my Dermatology rotation, I realized that helping people look their best results in patients feeling their best, improving confidence, self-esteem, and happiness. I found my true calling!

Welcome back to our Featured Physician series! We're excited to showcase our Regeneris Physician Affiliates and tell you about their practices, why they became interested in regenerative medicine, and technologies they're excited about.

Today we'd like to introduce you to Dr. Cameron M. Govonlu, a pain management physician at Physicians Pain Management Center in Raynham, Ma.

1. Can you tell us details about you/your practice?

As a person, all my life, I have been passionate about problem-solving, fixing broken things and design and symmetry.

When I started my surgical internship training at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, in 1976, my goal was to become a cosmetic plastic surgeon but due to the unexpected death of the plastic surgeon at Methodist Hospital as well as the field being highly-competitive with limited plastic surgery fellowships, it did not seem that I could secure my path to this specialty.

After a one year internship and six months of surgical residency, I decided to apply for anesthesiology residency in Southwestern Medical School and I got matched to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. During this three years’ internship and residency in anesthesiology, I took additional rotations in pain clinic, clinical hypnosis, and acupuncture.

After completing my residency I moved to Massachusetts where my wife had family and ancestors and started working at West Roxbury VA Hospital providing anesthesia for open heart and major vascular surgery as well as working with paraplegic and quadriplegic veterans. Later on, I moved to private practice at Morton Hospital in Taunton in 1982 where I practiced combined pain management and anesthesiology. I took multiple additional week-long courses all over the country in pain management and cadaver training and completed my board certification in anesthesiology with added qualifications in pain management.

In 1998 I decided to choose interventional pain management as my second career and started a free-standing office space interventional pain management in Taunton which was the first office space interventional pain management in southeastern Massachusetts.

2. Why did you get involved in regenerative medicine?

After two relocations I have settled in my current practice at 1244 Broadway, Raynham, Massachusetts.

I found my practice extremely gratifying and rewarding and up to today it has been the best twenty years of my career.

I have continued taking different courses learning the latest technologies in interventional pain management as well as taking additional courses in age management and bio-identical hormone therapy, aesthetics and prolotherapy.

As time went by PRP became a better substitution for prolotherapy and eventually stem cell revolution evolved to its current status. I took additional courses in stem cell therapy in both age management and pain management cadaver courses and have become extremely interested in the field not only recognizing that stem cell therapy will be the future of medicine but also the fact that it involves repairing diseased joints, ligament, discs and a host of other medical conditions and I can use my tools and interventional skills to get involved in this field and slowly adapt it as my third career in this lifetime.

I am very excited to be part of Regeneris Medical recognizing that Dr. Ryan Welter has already carved the way and established a structure for this new revolution in our area and I hope that as time goes by I become more and more active in this field.

Featured Physician: Dr. Jake Wardwell, D.O.

Welcome back to our Featured Physician series! We’re excited to showcase our newest Regeneris Physician Affiliates and tell you about their practices, why they became interested in regenerative medicine, and technologies they’re excited about.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jake Wardwell, D.O., an Integrative Medicine Specialist from San Francisco, California.

1. Can you tell us details about you/your practice?

I'm an osteopath board certified in Integrative Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and Certified in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound ( ARDMS RMSK) and Interventional Regenerative Orthopedic Medicine (IROM-C). I combine the best of conventional medicine with functional medicine to optimize health and wellness by looking deeper at hormone, nutritional and digestive health. As an Osteopath trained in musculoskeletal ultrasound, I am able to palpate and visulalize soft tissue strain patterns in the body to pick up on the underlying causes of musculoskeletal disorders. Lastly, Interventional Regenerative Orthopedic Medicine is about using regenerative agents such as Platelet Rich Plasma, Amniotic Membrane and Adipose derived Stromal Vascular Fraction to regenerate injured areas in the body. I combine these different aspects of medicine to both address the system in which illness and injury happens as well as the symptoms that manifest from this system.

2. Why did you get involved in regenerative medicine?

My path evovled from studying Yoga Therapy and Eastern Philosophy as a premed to studying Acupuncture and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine in Medical school. Concurrently in medical school, I trained with Integrative Medicine phsyicians and took extra courses and continuing medical education conferences throughout residency to learn more about functional medicine. During residency, I started working with doctors who were doing prolotherapy based on palpation, which helped me to learn all of the areas to treat and look at once I finally picked up ultrasound. Since finishing residency, I’ve been using ultrasound to diagnose and guide regenerative injections and have developed my own protocols for injecting and rehabilitating areas based on principles from Osteopathic Medicine, Acupuncture and Yoga Therapy.

3. What are some of the most exciting technologies within this field?

Stromal Vascular Fraction is the most exciting new technology in the field of regenerative medicine. I am seeing a more robust healing response in areas that I used to treat with Platelet Rich Plasma and am now able to treat certain injuries or illnesses that PRP was not effective enough to treat.

4. What is a fun fact you'd like to share?

I enjoy playing Jazz and Blues Piano nightly and I have an extensive Soul and Jazz Vinyl record collection that helps to inspire my own musical compositions. This creative outlet helps me to both process my days experience and inspire new creative ideas. A lot of what I do relies on intuition and feel and playing improvisational music helps to cultivate this skill set in a way that simply practicing medicine, maintaining healthy levels of physical activity and a healthy diet cannot.

3. What are some of the most exciting technologies within this field?

The technologies that are exciting in this field are the usage of PRP (Protein Rich Plasma) from patients’ own body, combined with stem cells from fat and bone and incorporating them back into their body and seeing the effectiveness in the process of centrifuging and delivery methods.
